Capilano Squadron
The Capilano Squadron arranges a Student Cruise for each boating class as a way to get new boaters and students on the water with experienced captains and proctors for some practical experience and know-how. Not only is this an excellent opportunity to do some hands-on cruising but also to socialize with fellow students and Squadron members.
The cruise departs from the relevant marinas (usually Sewells and Thunderbird in West Vancouver) at around 9:00 am. Each vessel will have 4 students, the captain and a proctor to assist where necessary. As well as basic navigation and boat handling you will also experience - pre-cruise briefing, departing the dock, anchoring, man overboard and docking. If you have a particular aspect of boating that you want to know about, please raise this with the Proctor and he may be able to assist.
What to bring:
|
PFD if you have one.
| |
| Please wear white soled, non-marking shoes on board the boat. | |
|
Navigational equipment (plotters, protractors and training chart). The
training charts are not accurate but will do for an exercise if you choose
to do one. The boat will have the proper chart for the area we are
cruising (Howe Sound).
| |
| Some warmer clothing just in case, but also drop the sun block in there somewhere. The weather in Howe Sound can be a little unpredictable. | |
|
Something to drink (non-alcoholic) while cruising
| |
|
Your fee for the cruise (if you have not yet paid).
