BCMTA MEMBERS’ UPDATE – APRIL 29, 2008

YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED

As noted in the last BCMTA Members Update in April, Vancouver Parks Board is considering re-development of the Jericho Marginal Wharf area. Parks Board members have been given four options for consideration – but none of the options include a marina. BCMTA would like to encourage you to contact the Parks Board to voice your concern and suggest that additional options that include a marina be investigated.

Background:
If you haven’t yet had a chance to read the May issue of Pacific Yachting, you should check out the editorial by Peter Robson and the article in the Currents section (page 18) by Peter Vassilopoulos. Both do a very good job in highlighting the key issues. Here is a link to Peter V.’s article: http://www.pacificyachting.com/content/view/1054/105/.

In a nutshell, Vancouver needs more moorage. The Jericho location presents an excellent opportunity to address this shortage. As Peter Robson points out in his editorial, the idea of a Jericho marina is not a new one and there are many benefits to be gained by developing one in this area.

We need your help:
Please visit the following link: http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/parks/feedback/jerichowharf.shtml and provide your feedback to the Vancouver Parks Board. We would also encourage you to contact Parks Board members directly to discuss the issue.

Deadline for input is May 9, 2008 so please, act quickly.
