Gulf Islands

August 30-Sept 1, 2003.

We spent four days on "Kuredu" cruising Southern Georgia islands with Rob and Heather McKay on "Baby Knot". It was just amazing. Spent Friday night at Silva Bay Marina where Rob and Heather caught up with us on Saturday morning. We powered to Pirates Cove, tied up and had a great little visit over some beer and wine. Then we cruised over to Thetis Island Marina for the evening with the Langley Power Squadron, a pig roast and a great dock party (compliments of the good Dr. McGillicuddy's). Left Sunday morning for Chemainus but they did not have a spot for us to spend the day so we docked at Ganges Harbour, on Salt Spring Island, walked around a little, had late lunch and an ice cream and then left for Montague Harbour Marine Park where we anchored and tied up for the evening.

Monday morning we set out for home while Rob and Heather headed South for the rest of the week. Against Rob's advice we decided to head through Porlier Pass between Galliano and Valdes Islands into the Straight of Georgia and ran straight into weather from the Perfect Storm (well, not quite, but it was very scary!) I did not feel comfortable taking "Kuredu" across the Straight (I did not feel comfortable on Kuredu at all right then) and neither did I want to risk turning her around (talk about being between a rock and a hard place!) so we prayed our way up the East coast of Valdes back into Silva Bay, where the weather kept us until Tuesday 2:30pm. Got back to Horseshoe bay at 3:30 pm.

Thanks Rob and Heather - what a wonderful trip.

Our route  Saturday at Silva Bay.  Saturday morning at Silva Bay.  Thetis Island Marina. Kuredu (left) and Baby Knot.  Thetis Island. Kuredu with the pub in the back.  Saltspring. Megan found a starfish and rob looks on.  Montague Harbour. It was pretty busy.  Montague Harbour. Kuredu and Baby Know rafter bottom left.  Anneline.  Anneline and Megan.  The gang. Anneline, Megan, Heather and Rob (in his dink).  Back in Silva after the big seas. It was pretty exhausing. I was waiting for the last weather report before opening a beer.
