This was a Squadron Cruise. Plumper Cove lies on the Westerly shore of Keats Island in the entrance to the Howe Sound. Keats Island is just east of Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. Since Anneline was working both Saturday and Sunday, Megan and I decided to go join the cruise on Saturday and we would fetch Anneline from the Langdale Ferry Terminal on Sunday evening - about 3 miles from the cove. The boys had already made other plans for the weekend. Megan and I set off in rain under cloudy skies around midday on Saturday. The trip there is not very long (about 23 miles) but we did about 9 knots while Megan piloted for the first while (up to Bowen) and I poured some coffee and kept watch.
We reached the cove at 2:00pm and since all the mooring buoys and dock space was taken, we dropped the hook a little deeper into the cove. Mark and Ian of the Squadron come over and helped and then Megan took off with them to go check some crab traps. The sun had popped out by now and the rest of the weekend weather was just amazing. Dinner was on the docks. Rob and Susan rafted up their 14 ft Lund and stayed over with us on Kuredu, so they gave us a ride back to the boat afterwards. They left early Sunday morning for Gibsons. Megan and I loafed on Kuredu for the morning - I made us some pancakes for breakfast and we even polished the boat a little. We decided to drop a line off the back of the boat right there and we caught a nice sized flounder (sole) which I cleaned and grilled for lunch. Our afternoon nap was interrupted by Ian who invited Megan for a hike. I stayed on board to wait for Rob and Susan who came and picked me up for the evening dock BBQ and party. Rob and I fetched Anneline from the ferry at 8:00pm with Robs boat.
Sunday morning we had to make a quick trip to Gibsons for some supplies, so we tied up at the Harbour Authority docks and took a stroll through Gibsons. When we returned to the Cove most of the Squadron boats had left for home, so we took a slow cruise around Bowen to Horseshoe Bay where I dropped Annline to get her car. Megan and I cruised around Pt Atkinson to False Creek, where Anneline met up with us again. An altogether nice weekend.
