Pitt Lake

September 2 - 4, 2006.

Pitt Lake is a truly unique spot to cruise to from Vancouver and probably the only freshwater destination we can reach with larger vessels. It is a long cruise from Horseshoe Bay but worth every mile. The cruise takes you up the Fraser River (we enter through the North Arm) and into the Pitt River to the lake. The lake is tidal (largest tidal fresh water lake in the world) but the water is great. This was officially a squadron cruise and the vessel KiwiPepper (Ken Kung) joined Baby Knot and Kuredu for the weekend.

Baby Knot left earlier on Friday to try and secure our preferred spot and Kuredu and KiwiPepper left a little later, entering the arm only after 4:00pm. The area which we would have preferred was occupied, so we ended up a few hundred meters North, stern tied against a small cliff. Fortunately our spot opened up Saturday and we quickly moved.

Saturday was very lazy and Ben made us 'Potjie-kos' for dinner. Ken provided soup as starter. The evening we moved Ken's Karaoke to the beach and had a blast. Several neighbours joined the fun till the genny ran out of gas around 11:30.

Sunday turned into party time when the fruity "girly" drinks started appearing and pretty soon everyone was in the water (Ken and I being unwilling participants at first). Dinner (mostly) was cooked on shore on Saturday evening.

Sunday morning we all had steak and eggs for breakfast - compliments of Kuredu - and started clearing up. When we managed to get some of the crew out the water we pulled anchor and left for home.

Another amazing weekend on the water.
