This year is the 50th anniversary of the Capilano Power Squadron and the bridge decided to make it a special event - a formal, black tie cruise on board of a charter boat. Since the boat departed from False Creek, near Science World, Anneline and I decided that it would be fun to cruise Kuredu into False Creek and stay on board for the night. The weather forecast did not look too good which would have meant a good soaking if we tried to anchor out and dinghy to the cruise ship so we opted to stay in Quayside Marina instead. Rob and Roxanne joined us for the dinner cruise so they kindly gave us a ride to and from teh marina.
We left Horseshoe Bay around noon on Saturday and stopped in Fisherman's Bay to fill up on diesel. The water was relatively flat considering the storm warnings issued for the Strait.
Quayside has some of the best, if not absolutely the best, docks we have ever been at. It's expensive at $1.75/ft but absolutely pristine docks. Dave, the dock master, came over in a dinghy to help tie up, took VISA payment and gave us a key for the security gates. Very friendly and helpful.
The evening cruise was pretty decent and fun. I'll try and get pictures to post later.
Sunday morning we woke to heavy rain and storm winds but the forecast promised us a little window to return home later. We left the docks just after 11 am. The water in English Bay was dead calm and we even got some sun while crossing over to Pt Atkinson. As soon as we reached Pt Atkinson the water picked up and got a little nasty till we cleared around Whytecliff Park. As we approached Horseshoe Bay the wind picked up and I feared a repeat of a few Sundays ago when we could not get back into our slip but we decided to give it a try and a very welcome lull gave us enough of a break to get in a tie Kuredu up.
