Thetis Island

July 1 - 3, 2007.

We joined the rendezvous of the BCBoatNet forum for the weekend to Telegraph Harbour Marina in Thetis Island. The weather was great, sunny and warm, and several of us sported a healthy tan by the time we got back. Megan met Alex and Keanna - two girls her age, and they were off kayaking and doing their thing almost immediately. I was surprised how quickly Megan mastered the kayak.

When we left on Sunday the weather was just too nice to go straight home, so we decided to take a scenic route back through Gabriola Passage. No sooner had we left Thetis than there was a call for assistance from a vessel that had run aground in Gabriola Passage. We were not the closest boat to the Passage but the others were all sailboats and we could be there the quickest so we offered to assist. Turns out the sailing boat had run onto the only rock, clearly marked, in the passage. They then abandoned ship without letting the Coast Guard know, which caused even more problems. We decided to launch the dinghy to go see if there was anyone on board but the boat owners returned as we let Ferry Tail into the water. In my opinions it would have caused more damage to try pull them off the rock and since it was low tide and they would float free in a few hours, we reported this to teh CG and left.

Here are a few pics from the weekend.
